WHAT’S the best thing a partner has gifted you for Christmas that placed them on your nice list? It’s a question we put to a few readers, and this is what they said.

Alicia, 32, housewife:

We live in a community with many young families and lots of young kids. My husband is usually a grouch who stays inside and complains when the kids are riding on the road on their scooters and bikes, and he always has a problem with them making noise. So it was a surprise last Christmas when the citizens association asked for volunteers to be Santa for the kids, and when no other dad would come forward, he volunteered. It was so nice to see my usually shy, moody husband transform into jolly old St Nick, and he was a big hit with the kids. I admired him so much for that selfless act that made the children happy. This year he’s going all out again, and from November he bought his costume and toy bag on Amazon so he can be a better Santa. I must say this new, kind man of mine is sexy as hell.

Alaina, 26, nurse:

My little sister just started college in the States in a city where she has no family. Our parents can’t afford to fly her home for Christmas, and I can tell that she’s terrified of spending Christmas alone in a new State. My boyfriend and I go to Florida every holiday, but this year when I mentioned what was happening with my sister he immediately said we should go to her state instead. Mind you, she’s way up north in snow central and the only flights are through Montego Bay, and they’re hella expensive. But he didn’t hesitate in booking myself, him, and my mom so we can go and be there for my sister.

Natasha, 50, ancilliary staff:

My husband suggested that this year we apply to take in a child or two to foster for the holidays since our children are now married with their own families. It wasn’t even something I’d even have considered by myself, but he heard the ad on the radio and did all the paperwork himself, and he’s so excited to be chosen to give someone a good Christmas.

Chevonne, 37, guidance counsellor:

My fiancé and I have acknowledged that God has given us all we need this year, and so we have to pay it forward. I was thinking of something simple like sponsoring a few gift bags or something, but he thinks big. Instead of us gifting each other, our daughter, or extended family this year, he’s organising a children’s treat in the community next to ours to hand out clothing, school supplies, and gifts. He came up with the idea just at the beginning of this month, and he’s going full speed ahead. Our living room is filled with things that we will be donating, and I respect him so much for thinking of others first.
