Jashii’s Born Fighter is YouTube’s most streamed song out of Jamaica for 2022
Born Fighter, a song released by fast-rising dancehall star Jashii at the start of the year, has been listed as YouTube’s most streamed song out of Jamaica for 2022.
Racking up close to 27 million views since the official music video premiered back in January, the song bested Skeng and Tommy Lee Sparta’s 2021 hit single Protocol to claim the top spot. Skeng also enjoyed the fourth and fifth place spots on the coveted year-end charts with Talibhan, which features Stalk Ashley (14 million views) and Life Changes (16 million views) respectively.
Checks made by OBSERVER ONLINE revealed that Masicka’s Suicide Note, released back in December 2021, landed at number three on the list.
An elated Jashii told OBSERVER ONLINE that when he released Born Fighter, he did so with the intention of touching the lives of listeners as the song came from a real place. He said he never expected the track to be as big a hit as it has become. Nonetheless, he is grateful.
“Mi never a expect the song fi be how it is right now. Mi did just do da song deh from me heart, from one real place, true life experiences and mi did just hope say it reach the people the right way,” he said.
“So mi really give thanks fi see how far it come innu. We do music fi it do the best weh it can. This is a great accomplishment for me and it just make me feel fi do more work and just never stop.”
Since its release, Born Fighter has been labelled as one of the most motivational tracks released by a young dancehall act in recent times. It tells the story of pain and struggle and shares how one can ovecome the latter through prayer and hard work. The single is Jashii’s most viewed song on the popular streaming platform.
Jashii also found himself with another track on the chart’s top ten songs for 2022, with the single Keep Up landing in the number 10 spot. The entertainer, who is looking to end 2022 on a high, has been nominated for two awards at the upcoming Jamaica International Music Awards (JIMA). He has been nominated in the categories of Best Reggae/Dancehall – New Artist and Song of the Year at the inaugural awards set for next year.
New Gear by Intence, claimed the number six spot, Squash’s Sweepstake’s Life and Ambala came in at numbers seven and eight respectively and Shane O’s Dark Room landed in the number nine spot, all rounding out the top ten songs on the chart according to the statistics.
Dancehall newcomer Valiant found himself with two songs in the top 20 as his hits Dunce Cheque and North Carolina nabbed the 14th and 15th spots on the chart.
Rounding out the top 20 list of most streamed songs from Jamaica for 2022 is Burna Boy’s Last Last (no 11), Moments by Masicka featuring Stefflon Don (no 12), History by Masicka (no 13), Empty by Chronic Law (no 15), London by Skeng (no 17), Elevate by Popcaan (no 18), Update by Masicka (no 19) and Corrupt by Chronic Law (no 20).
