Flanker swamp Boys Club 12-0 to book semi-final spot
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Flankers FC are the first qualifiers for the semi-finals of the St James Football Association’s Sandals Resorts International Major League after flooding last-placed Montego Bay Boys Club 12-0 in their return-round game at UDC Football Field on Saturday.
Tevin Fuller scored four times, while Norman Streete and Duwayne Samuels both got braces as Flankers FC won their seventh game of the season and took over the lead in the table with 23 points, one more than Reggae Youths.
Also on Saturday, Granville United FC improved their hopes of a semi-final place with a 1-0 win over Lilliput Rovers at Sam Sharpe Teachers College in Granville.
The win saw Granville United join Lilliput Rovers and Cambridge FC on 16 points.
At the UDC Football Field Flankers FC scored the largest margin of victory in the parish’s top club competition for a long time and were up 4-0 inside the first 10 minutes and kept on going.
Fuller scored in the 24th, 42nd, 58th, and 66th minutes, Streete scored in the ninth and 32nd minutes, Samuels in the 35th and 70th minutes after Danique Clarke, Humboia Forde, and Nigel Donaldson had given Flanker FC a 3-0 lead, while Derrick Frater added another.
Granville United ended the weekend on a good note with a well-needed win as Andre Tate scored the game’s only goal in the ninth minute.
