Flankers FC seek semis spot in St James FA Major League
ST JAMES, Jamaica- Second-placed Flankers FC could be the first semi-finalists in the St James Football Association’s Sandals Resorts International Major League today when they take on last- placed Montego Bay Boys’ Club in a return round game at the UDC field, set to start at 3:00pm.
Flankers FC are on 20 points from 10 games played and a win today
against Boys’ Club who are yet to pick up a point and depending on the result of the other game today between Lilliput Rovers and Granville United in Granville, could go to the top of the tables and secure their place.
Two of the four semi-final places are expected to be secured in this
round as leaders Reggae Youths need only a point from Cambridge FC in
their game on Monday to advance as well.
Five teams are in contention for the four places, Reggae Youths are on
22 points from nine games, followed by Flankers FC on 20 from 10 games,
Lilliput Rovers and Cambridge FC on 16 from nine games each and
Granville United on 13 points from eight games.
Today, while Flankers FC are expected to get three points from Boys’ Club, the game in Granville will be a crucial one for both teams, knowing that only a win would be good enough.
Flankers FC will be full of confidence coming off a 2-0 win over
Reggae Youths last week, ending their season’s- long unbeaten run while avenging their 3-1 first round loss.
Flankers FC had beaten Boys’ Club 3-1 in the first round and will be
going after another big win today, led by Danique Clarke who has scored five times so far and Denri Williams who has four goals to his credit.
The Granville United vs Lilliput Rovers game could be the most
competitive of the weekend, however, with both teams having their eyes set on making it to the semis.
Granville have a game in hand after they refused to take the field against
Heights FC last week because of the absence of uniformed police officers and will be looking to sweep the season series against Lilliput Rovers after beating them 2-1 at Spot Valley High in the first round.
Since their loss to Flankers FC, Lilliput Rovers have won their last two
games and will be full of confidence coming into this game.
