TUCKER, St James — Coaches Gregory Palmer of Faulkland FC and Alex Thomas of Molynes United were happy with the point gained from their 2-2 draw in Sunday’s Jamaica Premier League game at WesPow Park in Tucker, St James.

Faulkland FC, who ended the game with nine players after central defender Michael McLeod and midfielder Marvin Sangster were both sent off, led 2-0 at half-time with goals from Enrique Gordon in the first 15 minutes of the game.

Former national junior representative Jason Wright, however, scored twice in a four-minute span late in the game after Molynes United missed a penalty kick.

The point saw Molynes United go to 10 points and 10th in the competition while it was Faulkland FC’s second point as they remain rooted to the foot of the tables.

Thomas of Molynes said: “At half-time I just said, ‘You are 2-0 down. You guys have to show how much you want it,’ and they went out there and showed character and good team effort…we needed the three points but one point away from home is a blessing.”

He said the tactical moves were, “When they went a man down, we pushed a player up the field as being 2-0 down we had nothing to lose and we needed an early goal.”

“…had we scored that penalty it would have been better for us, and fortunately we got the goal right after that,” said Thomas.

Palmer, who was leading the team in the absence of Head Coach Leecroft Lettman, who is in Trinidad on a coaching course, said: “I am very happy with the point that we got. We were down a man, and losing the man forced us to change things around…going a man down was hard on us physically and then we got another red card later in the game.” He conceeded it was not all gloom and doom, however, as “we saw some positives, but for us to move forward we need to go find some defenders”.

The game got off to a fast start with two goals and a red card, all in the first 15 minutes.

Gordon, who had scored in Faulkland FC’s other drawn game against Tivoli Gardens, gave them the lead in the fourth minute when he hooked a left-footed volley past the Molynes goalkeeper Peter Harrison.

The Montego Bay team were down a man in the ninth minute when Referee Oshane Nation sent off McLeod for a rash tackle.

That did not slow their advance, though, as Gordon doubled the lead in the 15th minute, heading past Harrison from close range.

Gordon could have had a hat-trick but he missed a wide open chance in the 54th minute from just inside the six-yard box.

Molynes United got a chance to cut into the lead in the 70th minute but Faulkland FC goalkeeper David Swaby saved Janoi Williams’ penalty kick, and a minute later Marques McDonald’s volley was deflected for a corner.

The visitors finally got a deserved goal when Wright curled a ball from the top of the six-yard area on the right side into the top left-hand corner of the goal.

Two minutes later, Faulkland FC lost another player and Molynes United cashed in on the numerical advantage with a second goal in the 83rd minute as Wright fired home a shot from close range.
