Miranda Melhado: Take 2

Miranda Melhado: Take 2

Jamaican actress Miranda Melhado is understandably still on cloud 9 from her performance at the historically important Apollo Theater. “It was a dream come true,” she shares. “Walking backstage and seeing all the signatures of the people who performed before me was really, really a moment in my life.”

Her dream role is to be on a character-driven sitcom and when it comes to food, there’s nothing quite like a good ole Jamaican spice bun and fried fish from Hellshire is her must-have as soon as she lands in Jamaica. There’s so much more to glean…

Her big resolution this year is… to be more open. Open to opportunity, adventure and maybe even romance. I’ve been making a concerted effort to not shut people down like I have in the past and this year is all about taking chances and being open to things not going exactly as planned.

Her Grammy nod goes to… Miss Queen Bee herself! Renaissance caused a rebirth of dance music, in my opinion. It brought in LGBT culture and put it front and centre, as well as being so flawlessly produced. Honestly, the transitions alone deserve an award.

Her dinner party guests would include… Adele is one of my idols and I have seen many videos of her when she’s been under a few drinks and I think she would be such a good time!

Zendaya would definitely be on the list for her outfits alone! She always looks amazing and I’m such a fan of her talent and we are close in age, so I really think we would be besties.

Stanley Tucci would 100 per cent be invited! His range is truly unmatched. From The Lovely Bones to Burlesque, that man has done everything and done it amazingly. He also seems like someone who would have so many interesting things to discuss.

Lady Gaga. I have no words, and at the same time have so many. She has been such an inspiration to me. From her unapologetic artistry to her incredible acting performances to her amazing make-up line, the woman is an absolute force. I saw her concert this year for the first time and I will be attending every concert she has from now on, and she has permanently changed the way I look at musical performances. So to meet her would be an absolute dream.

Bad Bunny is one of my favourite artistes right now and I love how he advocates for mental health and reps his country to the max! I also think he would just bring vibes to the event and that is vital to any dinner party.

On the menu would be…

Mini mushroom quiches and a charcuterie board that is at least six feet long.

Fresh fennel and arugula salad

Steamed fish with yam and dumplings in a pumpkin sauce, lamb chops for the meat connoisseurs and tofu bibimbap Korean style for the veggie girls out there with broccoli soufflé.

Crème Brûlée and chocolate soufflé with ice cream for dessert

The music playing in the background would be…

SOS by SZA to start the evening

Hypnosis by Ravyn Lanae during the meal

Jessie Ware’s What’s Your Pleasure and Beyonce’s Renaissance to end the evening on a fun note.

I would want Law Roach to style me… because I think his vision is unmatched! I would hope he would choose something Versace (à la Dua Lipa 2021 Grammys)
