Granville United advances to St James FA semis
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Former champions Granville United booked their spot in the semi-finals of the St James Football Association Sandals Resorts International Major League after beating Montego Bay Boys Club 5-0 in their return round game played at the UDC Field on Saturday.
Granville United joins leader Reggae Youths who are on 25 points and Flankers FC who are on 23 points, but there will be a last-day fight for the final spot after Lilliput Rovers beat Cambridge FC 3-1 at Spot Valley High as both teams are tied on 19 points.
Amaro Robinson scored a hat-trick for Granville United who scored 12 goals in two games played within three days of each other and raced to 22 points, placing third in the points tables and certain of their place in the last four.
Robinson scored in the 27th 50th and 66th minutes, while Andre Tate scored in the 22nd minute and Ravino Scott came off the bench to score the fifth goal in the 72nd minute.
Daveroy Bailey also scored a hat trick for Lilliput Rovers to keep their hopes of advancing alive with the final set of games set to be played on Tuesday.
Cambridge FC, who were unbeaten in four games in the second round, would have booked their place in the semi-finals with a win on Saturday.
Bailey scored in the 15th and 22nd minutes to give Lilliput Rovers a 2-0 lead at halftime, Kenton Lewis pulled one back for Cambridge FC in the 80th minute but Bailey completed his hat trick in the 90th minute to kill off any hopes of a comeback.
