Car dealer accused of taking $1.2m but not delivering vehicle
A motor vehicle dealer was dragged to court on Tuesday after he was allegedly paid over $1.2 million to deliver a vehicle to a customer but failed to honour the obligation.
The accused, Shaun Palmer, pleaded not guilty to fraudulent conversion when he appeared before Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montaque at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
The allegations are that the complainant was introduced to Palmer in July, in the hopes of purchasing a vehicle. The court was told that the complainant paid over $1.2 million to the accused for a Toyota Hiace bus, but did not receive the car and all attempts to get a refund were unsuccessful.
After hearing the allegations, the judge adjusted Palmer’s bail conditions by making an order that all his travel documents be surrendered.
A fingerprint order was also made for him.
Palmer is to return to court on February 28, to facilitate the completion of the court file.
