Orchid Thai’s Chilli Dumpling Salad

If you’ve not yet heard, Orchid Thai Restaurant opened late last year. The reviews have been positive with most evenings fully booked.

Thursday Food allowed a few weeks to pass before making reservations. But, with celebrated motivational speaker and attorney-at-law Natasha Mayne on the island there seemed no better time to check out Kingston’s latest dining offering. Friends had suggested we nab seating on the outdoor deck. Fortunately we were, albeit a party of five, able to be accommodated. Comfy and enjoying the cool Christmas breeze, we were ready to try a few cocktails and eager to enjoy as many options as possible on the menu. Our server Nicholas Duncan not only handled beverage orders but was confident in his suggestions of what we’d enjoy from the menu. We pause here to not only applaud Duncan but, too, the management of Orchid Thai. Duncan had clearly enjoyed the fare himself and could suggest options for the vegetarians amongst us, the non-crustacean eaters and those of us who simply wanted tasty comfort fare. Based on his approach and knowledge we ordered more than we probably had initially intended and enjoyed every suggestion. Our special guests were effusive in their praise of the food and service.

Thursday Food suggests the lightly curried pumpkin broth simmered with Thai herbs and spices, chicken green curry, street style Thai fried rice, Orchid Thai house curry, Southern Thai chickpea curry, Thai salad, crying tiger beef, and as many Thai starters and cocktails as possible.

Dinner and beverage for five of us was about $50K.
