Tina Clayton to make 60m debut in Arkansas
World Under-20 women’s 100m champion and national record holder Tina Clayton is to make her indoor debut today when she competes in the women’s 60m Open at the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas.
Clayton, set to run a professional 60m race for the first time, is one of three Jamaican women to contest the event, while a number of other Jamaicans, both US college students and local based, will compete in the two-day meet.
Former World Championships long jump gold medalist Tajay Gayle, Commonwealth Games champion Jaheel Hyde and Kemar Mowatt are also down to compete on the first day.
Clayton, who ran per personal best 10.95, while retaining her title last year, will be accompanied by training partners Shockoria Wallace, Natasha Morrison and Bahamian Anthonique Strachan.
They are to go up against United Kingdom sprint hurdler Cindy Semper and American Taliyah Brooks.
World Under-20 Championships 200m champion Brianna Lyston of Louisiana State and Daszay Freeman of the University of Arkansas will contest the college women’s 60m.
Gayle will contest the men’s 60m race, along with Michael Campbell, while Rusheen McDonald, Hyde and Mowatt will run the men’s 400m. Devontie Archer of the University of Arkansas and Jevaughn Powell of the University of Florida are to also compete.
Former Alphonsus Davis High runner Ramonia Clarke of the University of Nebraska and Joanne Reid and Nickisha Pryce of the University of Arkansas are set to run the women’s 400m.
Amoi Brown is named in the women’s 60m hurdles line-up; Christopher Young and Brandon Lloyd, both of Barton Community College, are down to compete in the men’s weight throw; and Kay-Lagay Clarke and Britania Ingram are to contest the women’s long jump.
