Motorists face minor delays along Lowe River main road in southern Trelawny
The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that on Sunday, motorists may experience delays as they traverse sections of the Lowe River roadway in southern Trelawny.
The delays, the NWA said, may be experienced between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, as the agency works to install a culvert pipe across a section of the roadway. The work will be undertaken in the vicinity of the Glastonbury Purveyors establishment.
The Lowe River roadway falls along the Stettin to Highgate Hall corridor, which is one of the key North/South links. The corridor serves several communities in the hills of Trelawny and links sections of Manchester, Clarendon, and St Elizabeth to the north coast.
In a statement on Saturday, Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts said the works will result in the targeted section of the roadway being reduced to single-lane access.
Ricketts said the works form part of a major effort to repair sections of the Stettin to Highgate Hall main road, which have been undermined following successive flood events. The project involves the construction of retaining and parapet walls, drainage improvement and the reinstatement of the roadways using Asphaltic Concrete.
The programme of works is being undertaken by the NWA at a cost of $24.8 million, under its Maintenance of Secondary Roads Programme.
