Business Social — February 15, 2023

SAGICOR held another successful staging of its annual Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run on Sunday, raising almost $92 million for the University Hospital of the West Indies’ Paediatric Unit and the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

However, ahead of that staging, Sagicor had an evening of friendly conversations, fantastic food, and fervent fund-raising as its Sagicor Foundation brought business leaders together to celebrate excellence in philanthropy at the ‘Legacy Awards and Fundraiser’ that was held on February 8 as part of the week of activities leading up to the 25th staging of the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run. The event, honoured 13 people who have played instrumental roles in the evolution of the longest-running road race in the Caribbean. Business Social brings you some of the highlights.

Sagicor Group Jamaica President and CEO Christopher Zacca presents a Sigma Run Legacy Award to Sandra Shirley-Auxilly, who is credited as the conceptualiser of Sigma Run. Shirley-Auxilly was the managing director of Sigma Investment Management Systems in 1999 when the first Sigma Run was held.
Sagicor Investments CEO Tara Nunes (left) presents a Sigma Run Legacy Award to Karelle Ashley-Jones, founder of Jamaica Fitness Association (JAMFIT), for her dedication to warming up Sigma Run participants on race mornings each year since the inception of the run.
Sigma Run Legacy awardee Jennifer “Jenny Jenny” Small is all smiles as she receives an autographed pair of spikes from Sigma Run 2023 patron Asafa Powell after being the top bidder for the Olympian’s cleats.
Sagicor Bank CEO Chorvelle Johnson Cunningham (right) embraces Olympic and World Champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who was among the awardees at the event for her contributions as Sigma Run patron over three different years.
Jon Baker (right), co-owner of Geejam Hotel and music industry executive, engages in conversation with Sagicor Group Jamaica President and CEO Christopher Zacca and Daidre Sloley-McKay, assistant vice-president — group marketing.
Sagicor Group Jamaica Chairman and Sigma Run Legacy Awardee Peter Melhado (centre) chats with Ian Kelly, group chief financial officer at Derrimon Trading, and Nadine Beaumont-Walters, vice-president of Bank of Jamaica’s (BOJ) Sports Committee. Beaumont-Walters accepted a Sigma Run Legacy Award on behalf of BOJ for their long-standing participation in the event since 1999.
