With the global rise of Afrobeats, some Jamaican entertainers have got in on the action.

Popcaan has recorded songs with Nigerian star Burna Boy, while Projexx has collaborated with Wizkid, another high-riding act from Nigeria.

An artiste who is trying to have the best of both worlds is Ramzey Magandey. He has crafted a sound that merges dancehall and Afrobeats — an hybrid that drives his latest song, the self-produced Rude Boy.

“My sound is very eclectic and my topics are universal because I am seeking a global audience. I believe in the power of Brand Jamaica, but I also believe in collaboration and fusing sounds to give the fans a new musical experience,” he stated.

Born Christopher Hinds in Bamboo, St Ann, Ramzey Magandey is also promoting The 369 King, his first album. He lives in the United States where he has been creating a buzz in underground dancehall circles as an artiste, musician and producer.

That versatility has been beneficial to Ramzey Magandey’s career which began in 2020.

“When you are a travelling artiste it gives you a distinct advantage when you are able to produce your own music because you can literally record anywhere at any time and nobody will invest the same level of effort into your progress that you will,” he explained.

“When I moved to America I literally did the research and learned how to build beats, record myself, as well as mix and master music. The majority of what I have released was created completely by me,” Ramzey Magandey explained.
