Lucky escape for DCP Fitz Bailey as taxi driver with 74 tickets runs red light
A taxi driver who has amassed 74 traffic tickets was nabbed a short while ago after he ran a red light at the intersection of Beechwood Avenue and Lyndhurst Road in the Corporate Area, narrowly avoiding a collision with a vehicle transporting Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey.
The driver was apprehended on Beechwood Avenue, at the entrance of the Jamaica Observer’s headquarters, after he was ordered to stop by Bailey.
“He claimed that he has paid off some of the tickets and has more than 40 outstanding,” Bailey told OBSERVER ONLINE.
“He said he was in a hurry to take his girlfriend to work and that caused him to run the red light,” added Bailey, as he lamented the failure of some drivers to heed the road code despite the carnage on the roads and the increased fines.
A wrecker was summoned as the police moved to seize the vehicle and take the driver into custody.
