Water shops don’t help
Dear Editor,
Minister of Local Government Desmond McKenzie needs to understand that his water shop “ideology” is unacceptable and backward for several reasons.
Houses are piped to accommodate adequate water supply for hygiene purposes; water shops are not good enough.
Developing programmes for adequate water supply requires understanding that population growth determines the demand for water. As population grows, the demand for water also grows.
Water affects public health. The availability and quality of the water supply is a major factor in sanitation and disease control. A few bottles of water from water shops do not allow for proper sanitising of homes.
Adequate running water is of vital importance. Minister McKenzie’s outdated idea pains my stomach. He needs to seek advice from engineers and public health experts.
Healthy households require adequate water supply.
