Motorist to expect delays as NWA completes work on Maxfield Avenue
ST ANDREW, Jamaica— Motorists travelling along Maxfield Avenue in St Andrew this weekend are to expect some delays and minor diversions to facilitate the completion of milling and paving work along the corridor.
Starting at 8:00 am on Saturday, the section of the road between the traffic signals at Balmoral Avenue/Maxfield Avenue intersection and the Hagley Park Road/Maxfield Avenue intersection will be closed, the National Works Agency (NWA) said.
“Motorists wishing to enter Half-Way-Tree from the direction of lower Maxfield Avenue are being advised to use alternative routes including Chisholm Ave from Maxfield Avenue onto Hagley Park Road. Motorists may also use Ballater Avenue onto Cargill Avenue, onto Half-Way-Tree Road to Ruthven Road and onto Winchester Avenue and back onto Hope Road,” NWA advised in a statement on Friday.
“The closure will facilitate the final leg of the rehabilitation work which commenced last weekend. The repaving works are being done as part of the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation’s (MEGJC), Maintenance of Secondary Main Roads 2022 Programme at a value of just under $20 million,” said Stephen Shaw, Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA.
Shaw added that the repaving work is to be completed on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
Motorists are being advised to exercise caution, obey the posted warning signs and the instructions of the flag persons.
