Bail extended for St James cops on murder charge
The prosecution on Thursday requested a quick mention for two policemen who are charged in connection with the 2013 shooting death of Montego Bay resident Dujean Robinson.
Constables Surano Bird and Meseck Palmer, who were charged by the Director of Public Prosecutions after a probe by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), were given a March 30 date to return to court following a request by the prosecutor for more time to review the case file.
Bird and Palmer appeared in the St James Circuit Court before High Court Justice Andrea Tomas who extended their bail.
The allegations against the officers are that on November 7, 2013, Robinson was shot dead by members of a police team who were conducting an operation in Mount Salem, Montego Bay.
An eyewitness later claimed that Robinson was held and then fatally shot by the cops. The witness also claimed that Robinson was unarmed.
Investigations by INDECOM led to the arrest of the two cops who were charged with murder.
