Over the years Edwin Allen have built their Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships dominance on the back of an army of high-quality middle-distance athletes in all classes.

Nine titles later — eight of which were won consecutively — Edwin Allen will again be relying heavily on their middle-distance athletes for success this year.

The unbeaten Kevongaye Fowler looks a cinch for double success in the Class Three 800 and 1,500 metres. With season best times of 2:13.24 and 4:47.93, she stands tall in both events and looks well set to collect maximum points in both.

Monique Stewart has been a tower of strength for the Michael Dyke-coached team in Class Two middle-distance disciplines this season and has been pivotal in the team’s success in the 4×800 metres relay. She looks set to score solid points in the 800 and 1,500 metres. She is ranked number one in both events with times of 2:12.12 and 4:41.43, respectively.

Teammate Rhiana Gayle is also expected to add to the tally in both events where she is ranked amongst the top six.

Rickeisha Simms and Amoya Jameison look well set to score solid points in the Class One 800 metres where they are ranked second and third with times of 2:08.16 and 2:09.09, respectively.

The defending champions are also strong in the field events where they are led by high jumper Rashada Samuels in the Class One high jump and Sheniela Williams in the Open javelin event.

Their 400 metres programme, one of their weak areas over the years, has made strides this season and Kellyann Carr in Class Two, along with Kacian Powell and Tonyann Beckford in Class One, will ensure they get insurance points in the event this time around.
