ST JAMES, Jamaica— The prosecution on Wednesday offered no evidence in the case against Ceston Campbell, who allegedly threatened to chop up a woman and her son and burn down their house.

The matter was mentioned in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday, but the complainant was not present. The clerk-of-court told the court that the investigating officer was having difficulty reaching the complainant and that many attempts had been made, all of which had failed.

The matter was temporarily adjourned to allow the officer to prepare a statement regarding his efforts to contact the complainant, and the prosecution afterwards offered no evidence against the accused on the grounds that the complainant could not be located.

On March 2, Campbell allegedly threatened to chop up the woman and her son and burn down their house.

The court heard that Campbell threatened to kill the complainant’s son because he suspected him of stealing money from his house.

Fearful, the complainant spent the night in the bathroom until police arrived at 7:00 am.

When cautioned, Campbell reportedly said to the officer, “A friend ting this enuh, a friend ting…Mi nuh want unoo seh nutten to mi because a unoo girlfriend… A eighteen years mi do, and mi will do a next eighteen.”
