Gunmen rob supermarket in Santa Cruz, disarm firearm holder
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Gunmen held up and robbed a supermarket in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth on Thursday morning, making off with a firearm.
A police source confirmed the incident, which reportedly happened about 7:30 am on Main Street in the town.
A source told OBSERVER ONLINE that the gunmen ordered everyone inside the supermarket to lie on the floor.
It is reported that a licensed firearm holder, who is said to be an employee of the establishment, was also disarmed by the robbers.
It is reported that the robbers failed to gain access to a safe.
The men escaped in a Toyota Wish motorcar.
This latest incident follows Wednesday’s attempted robbery by gunmen on Beryllium couriers on Bogue Hill near Balaclava in St Elizabeth.
The Beryllium guards were able to thwart the robbery attempt — the third reported ambush by criminals on that armed courier company since February.
