6,000 set to compete at INSPORTS primary schools’ champs
The 41st staging of the Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) All-Island Primary Schools Athletics Championships gets underway Thursday with the three-day Eastern Championships at Stadium East.
One hundred and thirty schools are registered with approximately 6,000 students set to compete at the three regional championships leading up to the grand finale – The Nationals.
Lyssons Primary School are the defending Eastern and National champion while Greater Portmore Primary of St Catherine are the Central champions. St James’ Corinaldi Avenue Primary are the Western champions.
Following the Eastern Championships this weekend, the excitement will move to the GC Foster College for the Central Championships between May 8 and 10 then on to the St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) for the Western Championships between May 11 and 13.
The National Championship will be held May 25-27 where the best of the best will compete to be named All-Island champion.
The regional champions will get prize money of $250,000 with $200,000 for second place and $150,000 for third place. The schools placing 4th to 10th will collect $75,000 each.
Meanwhile, the school winning The Nationals will collect $500,000 with $250,000 for second place, $200,000 for third place and the 4th to 10th place schools getting gets $100,000 each.
Devon Biscuit has signed on as title sponsors of the championships for the next three years.
