Difficult going against Mojito in The Kingston

Champion two-year-old of 2022 Mojito returns for his second outing in 2023 in The Kingston, a Graded Stakes contest for native-bred colts and geldings going 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) on Sunday’s (May 7, 2023) 10-race programme. The race is the final preparation stop on the “Road to the Triple Crown” and offers a total purse of $3 million.

The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at each runner and analyses the outcome of the race.

1. BURNING VALOR: (3 b c by Silent Cat – Burning Clearance) – Had two ordinary runs since releasing the maiden tag. Burning Valor is not expected to trouble the principals.

2. MOJITO: (3 gr c by Savoy Stomp – Fiftyshadesofray) – Champion juvenile of last season who made a winning start to his three-year-old campaign in the 7-furlong (1,400m) Prince Consort Stakes on April 9. Mojito won by 5 ½ lengths in a smooth 1:26.2 without even breaking a sweat. Mojito is bred to get a distance of ground which makes 7 ½ furlongs quite comfortable for him. Based on his class and talent, Mojito should again put rivals in their place on his way to another win.

3. WHIZZ KIDD: (3 b c by Northern Giant – Mayken Joy) – Finished out of the frame in the AnyBet 10th Anniversary Trophy over 6 furlongs (1,200m) on April 29. Whizz Kidd, however, was third in the Sir Howard Stakes behind El Afortunado on March 12. Whizz Kidd could find a place in the exotics.

4. REJECTED RAJA: ( 3 b c by Soul Warrior – Palace Gold) – Ran the race of his life to finish second behind Mojito in the recent Prince Consort Stakes. With the question of distance out of the way, Rejected Raja is expected to run well once again.

5. RIDGE LINER: (3 b c by Dreamliner – Ma Grande) – Is going to be outpaced in this one.

6. SECRET ADMIRAL: (3 ch c by Admiral Alex – Secret Cat) – Has no form to recommend.

7. SENSATIONAL MOVE: (3 ch c by Sensational Slam – Money Move) – Announced himself on the Classics’ trail with an encouraging debut win on April 15. Sensational Move was comfortable in winning a maiden special weight event over 5½ furlongs by an impressive 11½ lengths on the bridle in a time of 1:08.2. Sensational Move, however, is not expected to win this one, but another encouraging performance is anticipated.

8. KAI ON THE GO: (3 b c by Midnight Hawk – Wild Wild West) – Was a 31-1 upset winner on debut over 5 furlongs (1,000m) round on April 8. Kai On The Go has no chance of winning.

9. HUNSTMAN: (3 ch c by Key To Power – Dream Point) – Scored an impressive 17-length win on debut in a maiden special weight contest for native-bred three year olds over today’s distance on April 15. Huntsman ran the distance in an eye-catching time of 1:33.4 (24.0 x 47.1 x 1:12.4). Huntsman looks the likely one to take down favourite, but we will have to wait and see how much he has improved since his maiden win.

10. ABILITY: (3 b c by Lion Tamer – Disability Charm) – Romped home on his second-consecutive victory from as many starts in the AnyBet 10th Anniversary Trophy over 6 furlongs on April 29. Ability won the race by 6 lengths in a time of 1:12.4. Ability is expected to be in the thick of things in The Kingston.

11. ANONYMOUS: (3 b c by Lion Tamer – Eighteen Karat) – Finished fourth in the Prince Consort Stakes. Anonymous is expected to go home earning once again.

12. MODERN MIRACLE: (3 ch c by Hedge Fund – Sound of Miracle) – Is going to find the waters too deep for him.
