Devon Biscuits, new title sponsor for INSPORTS Primary All-Island Championships
With a multi-million-dollar investment over the next three years, Devon Biscuits has secured the title sponsorship for the Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) All-Island Primary Schools Athletics Championships.
Distributed locally through Confectionery and Snacks Limited in Portmore, St Catherine, Devon Biscuits has consistently aligned itself with children-oriented projects and initiatives.
Sherene Byran, Brand Manager for Devon Biscuits, said it wasn’t a difficult decision to partner with INSPORTS.
“It was a no brainer. We recognize the importance, we realise the student athletes, they need the support, they need to be encouraged and this is the perfect platform to foster track and field in Jamaica,” said Bryan in a media release.
The company’s investment is J$11 million this year.
“We plan to be in all spaces as it relates to the championships. We also have cash prizes for top boy athlete, top girl athlete and also top school for each regional championship. The overall national champion will be awarded $350,000.
Said Bryan, “This is also a part of our corporate responsibility and as a brand, we believe we should invest in the country. Because if you think of your consumer base, this is Jamaica and this is where we get our support from. So, if INSPORTS provides us with the platform to give back, this is an opportunity to foster that talent from a school level.”
Sports Minister Olivia Grange commended Devon Biscuits for its support of the INSPORTS All-Island Primary School Championships.
“We are truly grateful to Devon Biscuits for the investment that the company is making in the development of sports in Jamaica through its major sponsorship of the INSPORTS All-Island Primary School event,” said Grange.
The championships kicked off on May 4 with the Eastern Championships at the National Stadium which runs until May 6. The action then moves over the GC Foster College from May 8-10 for the Central Championships. St Elizabeth Technical High is next from May 11-13 for the Western Championships and the national championships is scheduled from May 25-27 at the National Stadium.
