Easy does it as Lyssons repeat at eastern championship

Easy does it as Lyssons repeat at eastern championship

LYSSONS Primary of St Thomas successfully defended their INSPORTS/Devon Biscuits Primary Schools Eastern Championship in commanding fashion and walked away with the $250,000 winning prize at the Stadium East facility.

Lyssons Primary, who are also the 2022 national champions, amassed an impressive 300.50 points.

The St Thomas school won convincingly and were 99 points clear of second-place Harbour View Primary of St Andrew on 201.33 points, which received $200,000. Kingston’s St Patrick’s Primary were third with 112.33 and got $150,000.

Windward Road Primary, with 111 points, were fourth while John Mill Primary completed the top five with 98.33 points. Teams placed fourth to 10th received $75,000 each.

Omeco Henclewood of Holy Rosary and Davere Walker of Lyssons were joint overall champion boys after winning two events and amassing 18 points each. Kayla Lewis of John Mills was the girls’ overall champion, amassing 18 points as well.

On a day when a plethora of records were broken Sunjai Kirkpatrick of Alpha Primary won the Girls’ Class Four 60m dash in a record 9.39 seconds, ahead of the Lyssons pair of Kathalia Roberts and Angelika Spike in second and third with 9.55 and 9.62, respectively.

Another record was broken in the following race — the Boys’ Class Four 60m — which went to Chadwyk Senior of St Patrick’s Primary in 9.26 seconds while Justin Porter of John Mills was second in 9.39. Lyssons’ Keriece King was in record-breaking mood in the Girls’ Class Three 100m, capturing gold in 14.35 seconds just ahead of De-Asia Segree of Half Way Tree in 14.36

Davere Walker of Lyssons won the Boys’ Class Three 100m in 13.84 while Deandre Parker of Rousseau Primary took the Class Two in 13.38 and Holy Rosary’s Omeco Henclewood took the Class One in 12.87, after a stirring duel with Darnell Douglas of Half Way Tree Primary who was second in 13.03.

The Windward Road sister twins Tayanna and Kayanna Constable arrested the top two spots in the Girls’ Class Two 100m. Tayanna won in 13.62 and Kayanna was second in 13.70. Klahia Raymond of Lyssons was third in 13.78. Danelia Clarke of St Patrick’s won the Girls’ Class One 100m in 13.24.

Orane Perk of Port Morant Primary leapt 5.03m and won gold in the long jump open, ahead of Dominick Stanford of Harbour View with 4.83m. Trey Bailey of St Francis was third with 4.80m. Kayla Lewis of John Mills took the girls’ long jump open with a record 4.55m.

Suvannah Gobay of St Richards won the Girls’ Class One 400m in a record 1:04.11, ahead of Jada Adlam of Harbour View in 1:04.66. Brittany Bryan of Dalvey Primary was third in 1:05.04.

Windward Road’s Alfario Cunningham took the Boys’ Class One 400 in 1:00.03 ahead of Jhemoi Donalds of St Jude’s in 1:01.98.
