60-y-o killed in St Catherine murder, arson attack
A 60-year-old man was shot dead and a car set ablaze following an attack by gunmen at Backlands, a community located on Jones Avenue in Spanish Town, St Catherine on Tuesday.
The dead man has been identified as Everton Banton from Jones Pen in Spanish Town.
Information reaching OBSERVER ONLINE is that around 12:20 am, residents reported hearing loud explosions sounding like gunshots and summoned the police.
Upon arrival, lawmen found Banton laying face down on a bed with what appeared gunshot wounds to the head and face.
Police later discovered that the gunmen, while leaving, set ablaze a white Toyota Probox motorcar.
Banton was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police, who were in the area up to late this morning, said they have not yet established a motive for the attack but are conducting intense investigations.
