Reyan Lewis reaches 200-win landmark
REYAN Lewis, a youthful and skilled reinsman, attributes his success in reaching 200 career wins to his hard work, tenacity, and devotion to the profession of riding horses professionally.
Lewis reached the milestone on Saturday, May 6, 2023 when he rode Jason DaCosta’s She’s My Destiny to win in the Lady Geeta Trophy over six furlongs (1,200m). She’s My Destiny won the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance race by four lengths in 1:13.1 seconds, beating stablemates Madelyn’s Sunshine and Unruly Boss.
Lewis, who began the day with 197 triumphs, had ridden Wayne Princess and Sensational Ending to victories in the first two races, to lay the setting for his milestone. DaCosta is the trainer for both horses. Lewis later got it to 201 victories on Sunset Silhoutte, in the night pan also for DaCosta.
Lewis won his 202nd race on Sunday, May 7, 2023 when he rode DaCosta’s Johncrowjeff in the day’s seventh event.
“I feel good about myself because I’ve won 200 races in my career. I wanted to be a jockey since I was a little boy, and now that I am a jockey and things are going well for me where I have reached the milestone of 200 winners, I am grateful,” Lewis told The Supreme Racing Guide.
“My discipline, consistency, and hard work in the sport have all paid off. I want to thank the owners, trainers, fellow riders, grooms, and everyone else who has helped me over the years.
“Over the years I’ve ridden several good horses including Bigdaddykool, Mahogany, and She’s A Wonder. All of them are good horses,” Lewis continued.
