Wayne Pinnock makes World Champs qualifying mark in long jump
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Wayne Pinnock could be on his way to back-to-back World Athletics Championships after he achieved the qualifying mark in the men’s long jump on Friday when he won the South-Eastern Conference (SEC) outdoor title at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge. Pinnock jumped a personal best 8.37m (0.2m/s).
Pinnock, who represents the University of Arkansas got the qualifying mark for the World Championships of 8.25m and could represent Jamaica at the World Championships to be held in Budapest, Hungary in August.
The former Kingston College jumper beat his previous best of 8.14m
set last year and moved up to number three all-time on the Jamaican list, only behind Tajay Gayle (8.69m) and James Beckford (8.62m), who is ranked number two in the word and leads the NCAA.
He was ninth at last year’s World Championships held at Hayward Field
in Eugene, Oregon.
Pinnock is the second University of Arkansas -based Jamaican to make
the World Championships qualifying mark in the last three weeks after Roje Stona passed the qualifying mark of 67.00m in the discus throw.
