OBSERVER ONLINE hails celebs and their moms on Mother’s Day

KINGSTON, Jamaica- The glitz and glamour that come with being a celebrity, can often cause others to forget that popular personalities are just like every other human being.

Sometimes money and fame can make celebrities seem larger than life. But all of that can change in the blink of an eye, especially when you witness interactions between celebs and their mothers.

When you get to see exchanges between these popular figures and the women who gave birth to them, they become just that more relatable.

Today, as we celebrate mothers on their special day, OBSERVER ONLINE takes time out to admire, and tip our hat to, some of the mother/son/daughter relationships that not only make us see our celebs as regular folks, but that also warm our hearts while putting smiles on our faces.

1. Popcaan and his mother, Miss Rhona

‘Pastor Rhona’, as she is affectionately called by her dancehall star son, is a no-nonsense kind of woman. Even though Popcaan has declared himself the “Unruly Boss”, he’s still just Andre Sutherland to Mama Rhona, and she never lets him forget it.

Thanks to the videos shared of Popcaan and Miss Rhona’s mother/son relationship, we got a chance to see the artiste in a whole different light, which shows that there’s more to him than the hardcore persona he lets shine through his music.

When he’s with his mother, the entertainer’s sense of humour is at its peak and fans get to see that he’s not just a dancehall artiste, but a son that undoubtedly adores his mother. So much so, he provokes her endlessly, but all in the name of love, and we love to see it. Happy Mother’s Day Miss Rhona! Thank you for sharing Andre with us.

2. Wayne Marshall and his mother, Paulette Mitchell

While she doesn’t make regular appearances on the Internet, Mitchell is the epitome of a good mother. Through the moments shared by her son on Meet The Mitchells, fans of entertainer Wayne Marshall got to see just why the entertainer is the huge family man he is today. Whether the artiste and his wife Tami Chin are calling on Mitchell to babysit her grandsons or to drop gems of knowledge, one thing’s for sure, Mama Mitchell will be there. Thanks to her interactions with Wayne Marshall, we’ve come to realise that Mr ‘Chu Chu Chu Chu’ could not help but turn out exactly how he did. When it comes to putting his family first and loving them unconditionally, he had one of the best teachers. Happy Mother’s Day Mama Mitchell!

3. Romeich Major and his mother, Momma P

His philanthropic ways have made him Jamaica’s Santa Claus but when it comes to gift-giving. Momma P undoubtedly gets the best from her son, Romeich Major. Ever since the businessman and entrepreneur began sharing his mother with his million-strong fan base, he has done nothing but dote on the woman he says sacrificed time to ensure he was well taken care of. From splurging on a brand new home for his mother in Florida, to regular bouquets, Major makes sure Momma P always knows she’s appreciated. But the pampering goes both ways with this mother/son duo as Major has shared videos of his mother cooking his favourite meal as well as holding down her grandchildren and ensuring they are OK. These two make no qualms about their love for each other and in today’s world, that type of relationship needs to be saluted. Happy Mother’s Day Momma P!.

4. Alaine and her mother, Myrna Laughton

In the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, singer Alaine Laughton was showcasing her other talents as she took on the persona of ‘Hilda, di vibes Builda.’ The quirky persona showed off the entertainer’s acting skills as fans tuned in to watch her short skits. During that period, fans were also introduced to Alaine’s mother who would make cameo appearances on her YouTube show. Viewers would soon realise that when it comes to Alaine’s talent, the saying “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” couldn’t be more true as Miss Myrna is as talented as her daughter. Singing, dancing, story-telling, Mama Laughton does it all. In a time when folks craved entertainment, one could not have stumbled upon a better duo. We fell in love with Mama Laughton and got the opportunity to see just where Alaine’s dynamism came from.

5. Shenseea and her late mother, Castilyn Eleanor Williams

Shenseea’s mother passed away suddenly on June 25, 2020, but before she transitioned, Jamaica’s Trending Gyal was kind enough to share her with the world. From the exchanges between the two, there was no doubt the pair loved each other immensely. Shenseea often credited her mother for the woman she turned out to be, while the pride her mother felt for the budding dancehall star was unquestionable. The entertainer would often share videos of her mother. In some, the late Williams could be seen caring for her grandson Rajeiro, others would capture her dancing or cooking up a storm. Whatever it was, the pair’s connection was palpable. Jamaica mourned with Shenseea when news broke o Williams’ death, and today most of all, we send her loads of love and light. Stay strong Shenseea and we wish Miss Williams a Happy Heavenly Mother’s Day.
