After making her debut on the Sting stage in December, Vincentian dancehall artiste Sita D Lyrical Diva is gearing up to release her first EP in the island.

“When I came to Jamaica I was constantly in the studio, we were playing some beats and then we just kept recording and then we recorded about 20 songs. Then we said maybe it’s best to just put a compilation together,” she told the Jamaica Observer.

The nine-track EP, titled Amplified Emotions, is being produced by Ricky Bless of Bless Music Team [BMT] and Shines from Allfaces Productions. It is set for release at the end of May; however, fans got an early taste of the project with the release of Strong Woman on Mother’s Day. Wrong Man is to follow.

The entertainer noted that, as a foreign act, the EP is a milestone in her career.

“I’m very excited, of course, because I was told that a Jamaican producer would never work with a Vincentian dancehall artiste over a Jamaican dancehall artiste, or work with us at all because we’re non-Jamaicans.

“I’m very excited. I’m also excited that we have a number of music videos to accompany some of the songs off the EP,” she said.

Sita D Lyrical Diva, whose given name is Vasita Caine, says she was first introduced to dancehall music in the 1990s after hearing a Beenie Man track.

She further noted that her debut at Sting was one for the books.

“To be honest, I was anxious because I’m non-Jamaican number one, number two, I’m female and number three — I’m from a place where I was told constantly that, in order to perform on a stage like Sting, that is deemed the greatest one night festival for dancehall music, would be impossible. I got the opportunity to perform at Sting because I never listened to any of the criticisms or what we thought were the realities of the situation,” the artiste explained.

“I started using my social media platforms and putting out freestyles performing to Jamaican dancehall beats and that’s when MC Nuffy saw me and decided that he was going to work with me. So he started promoting me via his social media page and the organisers of Sting reached out to him… It [the performance] was excellent. It was well-received. I think I gave a good account of myself and represented my country well and dancehall music,” she said.

Sita D Lyrical Diva has been featured on dancehall rhythms with Vybz Kartel, Spice, Charly Black, and Demarco. She is, however, hopeful of collaborating with Masicka, Jahshii, Busy Signal and Aidonia.

She also recently released Skull Cap featuring King Jazzy.

Sita D Lyrical Diva told the Observer to expect a host of local and international performances this year, as well as new musical offerings.
