For artistes like Hitman Walle, going to dances in Spanish Town during the 1980s was exciting. Fans got to see hot new deejays like Lieutenant Stitchie, Major Worries and Papa San rock the mic.

Hitman Walle has been recording songs and performing on sound systems for 35 years. His latest album, Lion In The Jungle, was released in March by Montego Records.

“As an artiste, I try my best to be versatile, because that’s what I learn going to dances and seeing people like San and Stitchie do. So I can build lyrics on the spot,” he boasted.

Lion In The Jungle has 12 songs, including the title track Pretty Brown Girl, Best Mother and Right Time.

It is the sixth album by Hitman Walle whose first song, Man A Cuss Woman, was released in 1989.

In the 1990s, he cut several songs for Spanish Town-based People’s Choice Records, including Khaki.

Another producer he collaborated with was Mallory Williams, the respected keyboardist/singer known for hits like Irie Dawta and Boom She-Boom.

Hitman Walle teamed with Williams and saxophonist Tony Green on Dance Reggae Cha-Cha-Cha, a hybrid number which is his most successful effort to date.

On Lion In The Jungle, he worked with producer Alphanso Henclewood, head of Montego Records, whose musical roots are steeped in the Kingston community of Greenwich Farm.

“Is a nice album. I get to show a lotta different side to myself and we can only hope the fans like it,” said Hitman Walle.
