Youth get job opportunities with Digicel+ Mandeville expansion
Twenty-three young people were among the first cohort of Digicel+ sales agents to successfully complete an intensive three-week recruitment and training workshop.
Excited and enthusiastic about working with Digicel, the newly minted reps have since taken to the streets of Mandeville and surrounding communities to sign up residents for the parish’s first true fibre-to-the-home network. Superfast internet speeds, high-definition TV, and a wide array of home entertainment options for the entire family are among the main selling points for the award-winning Digicel+ service. Increased employment is also one of the other major spinoffs from Digicel’s massive US$4.3-million (J$645 million) technology investment in the parish over the past two years, according to the company in a press release.
Speaking at the final recruitment and training session in Mandeville recently, General Manager for Digicel+, Shawn Clarke, explained that as the world continues to evolve digitally, it is important that everyone gets connected. Clarke commented, “So far, our expansion of the Digicel+ network has the potential to reach over 10,000 homes across 24 communities in Manchester. We want everyone to get connected to the best digital network and get value for their money,” He continued, “This is why I am happy to see all 23 agents ready to welcome residents of Mandeville and surrounding communities to reliable Digicel+ service.”
Clarke further explained that the expansion of the Digicel+ network into more rural areas is an excellent opportunity for more young people to take advantage of digital job opportunities. He’s urging residents to be on the lookout for the agents in uniform wearing company IDs.
Newly admitted Digicel+ sales agent, Deajoney Barnett shared, “This experience has been a valuable one and has taught me how to step out of my comfort zone to connect with the residents throughout Mandeville and other areas. The Digicel team has been awesome, and I am looking forward to all the opportunities that will come with this role.”
The expansion of the Digicel+ network into Manchester forms part of a larger US$200-million (J$31 billion) ‘Digital Jamaica’ technology investment across the country. Launched in July 2021, the investment is aimed towards building Jamaica as a digital hub for the region. In keeping with its commitment to support the communities that it serves, the company’s philanthropic arm, Digicel Foundation, recently renovated the John Bosco Vocational Training Centre in Hatfield, through a J$40 million investment.
Digicel+ is now available in Mandeville and its environs, with customers benefiting from fast, reliable internet speeds starting at 100 Mbps, along with HBOMax and Disney+ streaming services.
