Cannot go against Mojito in 2000 Guineas

The Jamaica 2000 Guineas, a native-bred three-year-old Futurity race for colts and geldings over one mile (1,600 m), is set for Sunday, June 4, 2023.

A field of nine runners will participate in the Grade One event, which will see the pre-race favourite Mojito go for his fifth-consecutive win.

Below is the analysis of the nine starters in the 2023– 2000 Guineas.

1. SENSATIONAL MOVE: (3 ch c by Sensational Slam – Money Move) – Finished third behind Mojito in The Kingston on May 7 over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m). Sensational Move was then expected to put away rivals in the May 20 Monday Morning Trophy but failed to deliver. With only Mojito as the standout horse in the line-up, Sensational Move can run well enough to fill a spot on the board.

2. MOJITO: (3 gr c by Savoy Stomp – Fiftyshadesofray) – Is by far the best native-bred three-year-old at present. Mojito won two of the major prep races on the road to the 2000 Guineas, the Prince Consort and The Kingston, in convincing fashion as well. He won the 7-furlong (1,400m) Prince Consort by 5 ½ lengths in a time of 1:26.2 before spanking rivals by 15 lengths in 1:33.0 in The Kingston over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) on May 7. Those two runs, especially the last one, speak volumes of his talent, and with no one around half as talented as him, Mojito is expected to deliver another classical performance.

3. WHIZZ KID: (3 b c by Northern Giant – Mayken Joy) – Is going to be outclassed here. Whizz Kidd seems to be an average sort who lacks Classic potential and, as such, is best left alone.

4. BURNING VALOR: (3 b c by Silent Valor – Burning Clearance) – Did nothing in The Kingston against similar runners in this line-up. Burning Valor has no chance of winning this one.

5. ABILITY: (3 b c by Lion Tamer – Disability) – Was expected to be more competitive in The Kingston, where he finished fourth. Ability was up with the pace for most of the way before weakening when Mojito took over, approaching the distance. Ability is timely prepared for this and is expected to put up a better fight for a place on the board. .

6. SECRET ADMIRAL: (3 ch c by Admiral Alex – Secret Cat) – Has not lived up to early expectations, and only a major revival will see him making an impact at all.

7. RHYTHM BUZZ: (3 b c by Buzz Nightmare – River Rhythm) – Talented colt who has shown tremendous improvement. Rhythm Buzz comes into this race on the backend of two consecutive victories and will be facing this crop of runners for the first time. While Rhythm Buzz has potential, a winning here is very unlikely.

8. MONEY MISER: (3 ch by Soul Warrior – She’s Traditional) – A winner on last who will not repeat.

9. AWESOME ANTHONY: (3 ch c Soul Warrior – Antoinette) – Difficult to see Awesome Anthony winning this Classic. He will learn from the experience.
