Fifteen years after the release of his début album Best Friend, music minister and gospel recording artiste Jai Kingston has released its follow-up project titled HisVoice Save Me.

The 12-song set, which was released in February via Image Records, features the collaborations No Hanky Panky (with Radic) and Lift Jesus Higher (featuring Kawna Stone and AG Ikon).

In an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Wednesday, Jai Kingston said the album offers a variety of messages.

“God is in control and I’d say the album offers a variety of messages from each song, but if I should sum it up, we are seeds in life becoming trees that will bear his/her own fruit. Words and thoughts control the path each season takes, so watch what you say, because any tree bearing no fruit is easily cut down. I am that tree,” said Jai Kingston.

The gospel singer is appreciative of the positive feedback that the album has received.

“The response so far has been overwhelming. Streaming numbers are encouraging as well with a lot of new subscribers and listeners. This album has truly changed our trajectory and has brought me into homes I never thought would be possible. I have been receiving messages and e-mail from all over the world. To God be the glory,” he disclosed.

The project is especially dear to him as he serves as the executive producer.

Musicians Rhon Matthison, Kamar “Danx” Forrest, Brinton Haughton Jr, Keneil “Slogo Drums” Delisser, Jerome “Spangy” Small, Nyerere Thomas, and Levoy Paul are among those who worked on the album.

The late Bobby Digital and Lamar Thompson of Christ Driven Productions are credited on the production.

He shared the back story to the single No Hanky Panky.

“No Hanky Panky was inspired by events that occurred at a church in Montego Bay [in 2021], where a lady was killed, and others injured. That was a sad day in Jamaica. No Hanky Panky is a declaration of faith and trust in Yahweh only not in man. I believe if we were truly walking in the path that He has taught us, we would not have had such an unfortunate experience,” said Jai Kingston.

Jai Kingston (real name Wayne Nesta Buchanan) grew up in August Town. He was inspired by different artistes including Dennis Brown, Michael Jackson, Beres Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, and the Grace Thrillers.

“Overall, I listen to everyone locally, regionally and internationally as long as the music is good food. My inspiration is God and life,” he shared.

He began his trod in gospel music in 1997 and has been a member of Nadine Blair’s Perpetual Praise Team, Katalys Crew and the group Total Praise. Total Praise was a finalist in the JCDC Gospel Song competition and made it to the top ten with the song Turn Your Eyes.

He went solo in 2006.

His better-known songs include I Surrender, Save Me, Rags to Riches, and Can’t Take My Lord.
