Blake, Thomas-Dodd second in Holland meet

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaicans Yohan Blake and Danniel Thomas-Dodd were second in the men’s 100m and women’s shot put respectively at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games in Hengelo, Netherlands, a World Athletics Continental Tour-Gold meeting.

Blake, who was edged on the finish line by Great Britain’s Reece Prescod, ran a season’s best 10.05 seconds (0.4m/s), for second place, the second straight time he was lowering his season best in two days.

Blake, the World Champion over 100m in 2011 and a semi-finalists last year, opened his 100m season with 10.18 seconds in Morocco on May 28 and then ran 10.15 seconds at the Golden Spikes meeting in Italy on Friday.

Prescod ran a season’s best 9.99 seconds to win, while Raphael Bouju of the Netherlands was third with a personal best 10.09 seconds.

Thomas-Dodd, who recently improved on her national record, was the runner-up in the women’s shot put with a best mark of 19.21m, coming in the fifth round.

American Maggie Ewan won with 19.61m and Portugal’s Auriol Dongmo was third with 18.89m.

Former Commonwealth Games steeplechase champion, Aisha Praught-Leer ran a season’s best 4:13.02 seconds in the 1500m, finishing off the podium.
