Dark web assault
The personal information of some Government ministers, parliamentarians, former senators, and business titans have been exposed in a cyberattack on brokerage firm Mayberry Investments Limited by dark web group Play Ransomware.
The information, which goes as far back as 2009, is contained in thousands of files showing margin loans, portfolio details, bank statements, and other recently submitted information of various Jamaica Stock Exchange-listed companies.
However, Mayberry has assured clients that their financial positions have not been compromised and the company has taken steps to remedy the situation. Additionally, Mayberry has reported the matter to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Cybercrimes Unit, and additional EDR (endpoint detection and response) solution was deployed to effectively monitor network activity.
