Hearty party at Gin ‘n’ Juice
Intermittent rain did little to dampen the party vibes at the 31st anniversary celebration of the 90s house party Gin ‘n’ Juice held at The Ruins at The University of the West Indes, Mona Campus, on June 3.
As soon as the skies cleared, patrons started making their way into the venue.
The event attracted a large number of attendees who were eager to take a musical trip down memory lane courtesy of DJs Black Chiney, Richie D, and The Mighty Travellers.
“Despite the [inclement] weather we had no thought of postponing the event. Not at all, as we work by faith and not sight, so we never stopped preparing and we were ready when our guests started to arrive at the advertised 8:00 pm gate opening time,” Gregg Smith, one of the promoters, told the Jamaica Observer.
He further said that the event lived up to his expectations.
“Yes! We most certainly were satisfied with the outcome of the event. We consistently allow our patrons to have a great time and certain long-lasting memories. Furthermore, with the advent of social media, we’re definitely getting exposure to a wider audience, and the simple truth is that once you offer a top-quality product people are going to seek you out and get the experience for themselves,” Smith said.
The promoter further shared that there were several standout moments throughout the evening.
“Honestly the entire night marked yet another memorable staging of Gin ‘n’ Juice. I think the greeting drink provided by our title sponsor Gordon’s Gin was very well received by our guests. We also received marvellous feedback on the excellent job done by our DJs. The event had good vibes and energy as our DJs kept patrons dancing and singing throughout the night,” he told the Observer.
The first Gin ‘n’ Juice was held in 1994 at College Common, across from the Mona Campus.
Smith shared that preparations are already under way for the next staging of Gin ‘n’ Juice.
“The next staging will be September 3, and patrons should come out because with us they know exactly what they are getting — a great party, with great music, and a fabulous venue to have the time of their lives with friends they haven’t seen in ages,” he said.
