Donovan Hutchinson grabbed the headlines at the races on Sunday as his charge Further and Beyond won the $1.14-million Hubert Bartley Memorial Trophy main event at Caymanas Park.

Further and Beyond, who was racing for the second time this season after a nearly year-long rehabilitation layoff, easily defeated rivals by a length and a half over seven-and-a-half furlongs (1,500m) to give Hutchinson his first career win as a licensed conditioner.

Ridden by Bebeto Harvey, Further and Beyond, who was running with the visor off, settled in third position behind Green Gold Rush (Dane Dawkins) and Power (Tevin Foster) down the backstretch in the small field of six runners.

Further and Beyond, the former Horse of the Year, maintained his speed admirably until Harvey sent the long-striding horse in pursuit of Green Gold Rush over the half-mile (800m).

With the momentum going his way, Further and Beyond surged to the front full of running approaching the distance and went on to register his 10th career win from 21 starts.

Green Gold Rush did well to hold onto second place ahead of Power in third place. The final time for the race was recorded at 1:34.1 (24.4 x 48.2 x 1:12.1).

Meanwhile, Big Argument, trained by Edward Stanberry and ridden by Paul Francis, made one move to win the Errol Anthony Subratie Trophy, a Restricted Allowance IV event for native-bred five-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and imported five-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) over six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m).

Big Argument won the race by 1 ¾ lengths ahead of Prosecco (Anthony Thomas) and Gone A Negril (Matthew Bennett) in a time of 1:23.4 (24.1 x48.1 x 1:15.1).

Tevin Foster was the favourite among the jockeys, with two victories on the 10-race card.

Foster won the fifth race aboard G T Boy for trainer Anthony Nunes and the sixth race atop A Gift From Ben for trainer Fitzgerald Richards.

Racing continues on Saturday featuring the running of the Jamaica St Leger, the second jewel in the Triple Crown series.
