Attorney wants time with client charged in murder of two
A defence attorney for a St James man accused of the May 31 double homicide at Roehampton in the parish has asked for more time to speak with his client before applying for bail.
Knitson Reid, who was appearing in court for the first time on Wednesday, is charged with the murder of 23-year-old farmer Linston Anderson, otherwise called Blacks, and 20-year-old Tavar Doeman, otherwise called Ravers.
During Wednesday’s hearing the prosecutor informed the court that a number of documents were outstanding.
Attorney-at-law Michael Hemmings, who represents the accused, postponed the bail application as he said he needed more time to speak with his client.
“The reason for deferring the application this morning is that I received the file in court this morning…I’ve gone through the majority of the statements on file but I still need to have discussions with my client,” Hemmings said.
“Mr Reid, your attorney has been served with copies of what the prosecution partly has on its file… He’s yet to complete going through it, and he also needs to speak with you…Give your fingerprints to the police today. You are remanded in custody until the 13th of July when we will determine whether or not a bail application will be pursued on your behalf,” Presiding Parish Judge Sasha-Marie Smith-Ashley told Reid before police officers removed him from the prisoner’s dock.
According to police reports, about 10:30 pm the men were at a location in the community when a gunman approached them and shot both. Another man was injured during the incident.
The police were summoned and Anderson and Doeman were seen suffering from gunshot wounds. They later succumbed to their injuries.
The other injured man escaped and was assisted to hospital, where he received treatment.
