SNEAKY JOE
Sneaky Joe, after finishing second to Millinium Star in a Non-Restricted Maiden Condition event for native-bred four-year-olds and upwards, was awarded first place in the six-furlong (1,200m) contest following the disqualification of the winner.
Trained by Edward Stanberry and ridden by Phillip Parchment, Sneaky Joe broke behind the early pace as Edina Marsh (Shamaree Muir) led the field into the half-mile (800m) turn. Sneaky Joe was still behind the leaders as Edina Marsh took the field into the lane ahead of Millinuim Star and Solid Truth (Oshane Nugent).
Parchment then produced Sneaky Joe for an effort and the four-year-old bay colt, who was storming forward on the outside of runners, had to switch to the inside of a drifting Millinium Star close to home, losing out by a length and three quarters at the wire.
Following the stewards’ inquiry and a jockey’s objection lodged by Parchment, the colours of Millinium Star were taken down and Sneaky Joe promoted to first place. She’s Nae Nae finished in third place as the final time was recorded at 1:18.3 (23.2 x 49.3).
SNOWFLAKES HOLDS ON
Snowflakes, under a well-executed ride from Tevin Foster, just held on to win a Restricted Allowance II event for native-bred five-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of four) and imported five-year-olds (non-winners of three) going seven furlongs (1,400m).
The Colin Ferguson-conditioned Snowflakes held the lead from the gates opened ahead of Big Argument (Paul Francis) and Thegoodlife (Jordan Barrett) down the backstretch. Big Argument pointed on Snowflakes going into the half mile (800m) and opened up approaching the distance.
Turning for home on the inside rails, Snowflakes rallied to take up the running ahead of Big Argument in deep stretch and began to draw away leaving the furlong pole. Although she shortened inside the final part of the race Snowflakes had done more than enough to hold on to a length’s win at the wire, ahead of a fast-finishing Fault Line (Reyan Lewis).
Big Argument finished in third place as the final time for the race was clocked at 1:30.2 (24.3 x 48.2 x 1:14.3).
EASY DOES IT FOR POWER FROM ABOVE
Three-year-old chestnut filly Power From Above easily obliged as the favourite in a three-year-old maiden race travelling 9½ furlongs (1,900m).
Trained by Anthony Nunes and ridden by Tevin foster, Power From Above chased Richie Rich (Reyan Lewis) from second position, passing the stands for the first time, and into the clubhouse. Entering the main track, Power From Above was taken off the pace and allowed Stein (Dane Dawkins), Lady Karma (Richard Henry), and Mr Senator (Matthew Bennett) to go.
Power From Above maintained her gallop well down the backstretch until approaching the half-mile turn when she slipped down into third place in pursuit of Richie Rich and Lady Karma. Power From Above came off the home bend in second place before hitting the front full of running in deep stretch, as the Key To Power – Blufield offspring cruised home by 4¾ lengths.
Richie Rich was second and Uncharter (Phillip Parchment) third. The final time for the race was timed at 2:07.1 (27.0 x 53.1 x 1:18.2 x 1:44.4).
THE EXODUS
Trained by Steven Todd and ridden by Anthony Thomas, The Exodus came from behind runners to win the Henry George Harrison Sr Memorial Cup in fine style over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m).
The Exodus broke in mid-pack and watched as Airstream (Roger Hewitt) set the early fractions with Rhosa The Warrior (Andree Powell) and Minidewak (Javaniel Patterson) following. The Exodus came into view navigating the half-mile turn in fourth place, looking a real threat on the heals of the leaders.
Turning for home, The Exodus produced a strong run and took control in deep stretch and then had to hold off a fast-finishing Rani Bangala (Dane Dawkins). Airstream finished third. The final time was clocked at 1:23.1 (24.2 x 49.1 x 1:15.2).
