Mission da gr81 generates buzz with ‘Yardman Style’
Deejay Mission da gr81 pays homage to Jamaican culture with Yardman Style, his first song for 2023. Released in June, it is produced by JonFX.
The South Florida-based artiste met JonFX last year through a mutual friend and they agreed to start working together on songs. He believes their first project is a winner.
“It feels great to get the song out, it’s doing its thing right now and I’m doing a lot of promo on it. Everyone love it so far, the energy on the song is just a different vibe,” said Mission da gr81.
JonFX started his career as a session musician in Jamaica before migrating to the United States where he was mentored by Glen Adams, legendary organist for The Upsetters, house band for Lee “Scratch” Perry.
Originally from Linstead, Mission da gr81 was raised in St Mary. Since the late 1980s he has lived in the United States.
While he cut his teeth on the New York dancehall and hip hop circuits, it was not until late last year that his first songs were released.
His debut single, Champion, was produced by Lighthouse Records. Off The Hook, his follow-up, was produced by The Legion out of California.
