Portmore United’s Satchwell to join Slovenian club on one-year loan

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Portmore United Football Club’s attacking midfielder Shakeone Satchwell has signed with Nogometni Klub Rogaska in Slovenia on a one-year loan deal.

According to a Portmore United press release, Nogometni was impressed with the midfielder’s performance at a recent training stint at Sporklub Sturm Graz, an Austrian Association football club in the Austrian Football Bundesliga.

Satchwell was exceptional for St Andrew Technical High (STATHS) in last season’s Manning Cup, leading his school to a runner-up finish behind Jamaica College.

He has also impressed in the Jamaica Premier League and Lynk Cup Knockout, with Portmore winning the latter competition.

“Indeed, all at Portmore United Football Club are very pleased that Satchwell has taken another important step in his professional journey. Credit must be given to his determination to achieve at the highest level of the sport and this platform in Slovenia should hopefully advance his growth and development. We are confident in his success and he’s an inspiration to many young footballers from very humble beginnings like himself, that ambition driven with focus and the willingness to invest in oneself can turn dreams into reality,” Philip Williams, head coach of Portmore United FC and STATHS said.

Satchwell’s agent, Kevin Cowan, said the deal is a great step in the young man’s career.

“I’m really excited for Satchwell. This is a very good step for him. It will be challenging of course, as there is a lot for him to learn, but he has shown me that he has a good mindset and the aptitude to learn. These are very important traits required for him to succeed. Now, the work for him begins,” Cowan said.

Portmore United FC has a history of exporting talents to Europe and North America. Rudolph Austin, Claude Davis, Omar Daley, Jason Morrison, Eric Vernan, Ricardo Cousins, Alvas Powell, Javon East, Malique Foster, Andre Lewis, Tevin Shaw, Venton Evans, Lamar Walker and Tremaine Stewart are among the many players who earned contracts overseas via Portmore.
