Meet records for J’can trio in Luxembourg
Sprint hurdler Amoi Brown and sprinters Kishane Thompson and Jonielle Smith all set meet records at Sunday’s Meeting International Schifflange at Stade Jean Jacoby in Schifflange, Luxembourg.
The meet is a World Athletics Continental Tour – Challenger event.
Brown clocked 12.73 seconds (1.7m/s) to win the 100m hurdles, beating South Africa’s Marion Fourie- 12.82 seconds and American Talie Bonds- 12.86 seconds.
Smith clocked 11.18 (1.6m/s), her second fastest time of the season to win the women’s 100m, beating the meet record of 11.20 seconds set by Great Britain’s Kristal Awuah in 2018.
Jamaican women filled the top six places in the race as Smith was followed by Serena Cole – 11.25 seconds, Krystal Sloley 11.30 seconds, Tina Clayton 11.44 seconds, Jura Levy 11.45 seconds and Tia Clayton 11.50 seconds.
Thompson dipped under 10.00 seconds for the second time in his very short career after he ran 9.99 seconds (0.9m/s) in the first round, under the meet record of 10.11 seconds set by Julian Wagner of Germany in 2021.
David Morgan-Harrison of Great Britain was second with 10.30 seconds and Melbin Marcelino of the Dominican Republic was third in 10.40 seconds.
Christoff Bryan won the men’s high jump after he cleared 2.19m, beating Joel Clarke-Khan of Great Britain who also cleared the same height with Saad Hammouda of Morocco third with 2.10m.
Malik James King was second in the men’s 400m, running 46.11 seconds to win his section, Javon Francis was ninth overall after running 46.88 seconds for fourth in his section while Wendell Miller ran 47.92 seconds.
