Women empowerment remains the mission for We Inspire Women after seven years

WE Inspire Women celebrates its seventh anniversary this year and founder and CEO of the organisation, Cortia Bingham McKenzie, is reiterating her commitment to empowering women and girls in Jamaica and across the Caribbean. Bingham McKenzie shared that through her platform her aim is to impact positive social change, foster greater self-confidence and awareness in women and girls, and provide opportunities for self-development and growth.

The seventh anniversary wealth and wellness brunch will be held on Sunday, August 27 at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel. The event features a power-packed line-up of eight speakers, with the keynote address being delivered by Dr Stacy Richards Kennedy, regional manager for the Caribbean Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.

We Inspire Women founder and CEO Cortia Bingham McKenzie

“When I conceptualised and launched We Inspire seven years ago, it was at a pivotal time in my life, and I realised that I had to start owning my truth. I wanted to use my personal story of overcoming to help other women give voice to their stories. There is so much power in each of our stories, and by sharing our stories, it can help others to rewrite their own stories with wisdom, tenacity, and hope. Our belief is that “it is possible with God at the helm”. That is what We Inspire is ultimately about — providing a community of shared experiences to mobilise women and girls to live the abundant life,” Bingham McKenzie shared.

Within its seven years, We Inspire Women has hosted over 40 self-development workshops, networking events, vision board sessions, and high school tours across the island, impacting thousands of women and girls. The sisterhood movement has also expanded its reach outside of Jamaica, hosting its signature empowerment event in Trinidad in March 2020.

“While We Inspire Women is based in Jamaica, our mission is to solidify networks for the global advancement of women and girls, and Trinidad was the first step towards fulfilling that mission,” Bingham McKenzie said.

Through its platform, We Inspire has mobilised many influential women to use their stories to inspire and impact change. Past notable speakers include Juliet Holness, Member of Parliament and wife of Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness; Justice Sonia Bertram Linton, Supreme Court judge; Diahann Gordon Harrison, children’s advocate of Jamaica; and Donna Duncan-Scott, group executive director, culture and human development, JMMB.
