She’s My Destiny dances away with Reggae Trophy
She’s My Destiny maintained her reputation as one of the best sprinters in training with another super sprinting performance to win Saturday’s $1.75-million Reggae Trophy main event at Caymanas Park.
The five-year-old chestnut mare She’s My Destiny made all the running in a dominant length-and-three-quarters win margin in the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over the five-furlong (1,000m) straight course. Reyan Lewis, the current leading rider, was in the saddle for renowned trainer Jason DaCosta.
She’s My Destiny got a good start at the break and immediately took the lead from Jordon Reign’s (Tevin Foster) and stablemate Lure of Lucy (Jordon Barrett). She’s My Destiny kept a strong lead over the pack until she reached the fake rails, when she began to pull away from opponents, turning the race into a one-sided affair. In the end, the Bern Identity – Woman is Boss offspring easily won ahead of the fast-finishing Perfect Brew (Ramon Nepare) and Lure of Lucy back in third place. The talented American-bred Jordon Reign’s, who was making his seasonal debut following a 224-day break, finished a disappointing last in the five-horse field. She’s My Destiny, who was winning for the third time in seven starts this season, ran the distance in 1:00.1 (23.0 x 46.2).
She’s My Destiny was one of two victories for DaCosta on the nine-race card, and one of three for Lewis.
DaCosta and Lewis partnered with Outbidder to win the $1.25-million Liu Chie Poo Trophy, an Overnight Allowance race for three-year-olds and higher over one mile (1,600m). Outbidder won the race by three-quarters of a length ahead of stablemate Sunset Silhoutte (Jerome Innis) in a time of 1:41.2 (24.4 x 48.1 x 14.2).
Lewis’ other winner was Gone A Negril for trainer Patrick Lynch in the opening event.
Champion jockey Dane Dawkins also had a successful day in the saddle, riding three winners. Dawkins won the third race aboard Bella Soul for trainer Gary Subratie, the fifth race atop Mister Mandate for trainer Steven Todd, and the eighth race aboard Jack of Spades for trainer Michael Marlowe.
Racing continues next weekend with racing on Saturday and Sunday.
