13-year-old youth advisor to speak at Guardian Life’s annual scholarship and grant awards

Thirteen-year-old youth advisor Ackeef Nugent will be the inspirational speaker at Guardian Life’s 17th Annual Scholarship and Grant awards ceremony, to be held at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Friday, August 18 at 10:00 am.

With the theme ‘Celebrate! You Dared! You Delivered’, the event’s guest speaker will be Russhaine Berry, vlogger and an awardee of the Prime Minister’s Youth Awards for Excellence in Arts and Culture.

Other speakers include Education Minister Fayval Williams; vice-president of Guardian Life, Constance Hoo; and board member of the Guardian Group Foundation, Marva Bernard.

For almost two decades, Guardian Life Limited, through the Guardian Group Foundation, has played a pivotal role in providing essential financial assistance to students islandwide. Through a range of scholarships, grants, bursaries, book vouchers, and book supplies, the foundation is dedicated to creating positive impacts within communities.

In the upcoming academic year of 2023/2024, the foundation is set to disburse over $5.6 million, reinforcing its commitment to empowering Jamaica’s future leaders. This funding encompasses both new scholarship and grant recipients as well as those students renewing their scholarships.

The 17th Annual Scholarship and Grant awards ceremony will honour outstanding performers from the recently concluded Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations in various categories:

1. PEP National Top Boy and Girl: Continuing the tradition, the PEP National Top Boy and Girl will each be awarded scholarships valued at $1,000,000. This scholarship spans five years, providing $200,000 per year throughout their secondary school journey.

2. Policyholders PEP Scholarship: Guardian Life Limited extends its support to the children or legal wards of policyholders. Two deserving individuals (one boy and one girl) will each be granted scholarships valued at $70,000 per year. These scholarships are intended to sustain for five years during the secondary school phase, culminating in a total value of $350,000 per awardee.

The event promises to be a celebration of academic excellence and perseverance, showcasing the dedication and hard work of these remarkable scholars.

Entertainment will be provided by the award-winning Tivoli Dance Troupe and Nolan Collingnon who is making his debut in the feature film, One Love Bob Marley, set to premiere in January 2024.

Guardian Life Limited is proud to contribute to the growth and development of Jamaica’s educational landscape, creating opportunities that empower young minds to thrive and excel.
