Adrian Prince, the son of trainer Tyrone Prince, became the latest trainer from the 39 who graduated from the 2023 Jamaica Racing Commission’s (JRC) Trainers’ Training programme on May 12 — to win a race, saddling Stanislaus in the fourth on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

Prince’s success came in the One Draw (1996) trophy, a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) event that also included six-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of three) and native-bred five-year-olds and upwards (maidens) going 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight.

Installed as the 4/5 favourite, Stanislaus made one move to win by 9 ½ lengths in a time of 1:03.3 (24.0 x 47.3).

“Well, it feels great to have won my first race as a licenced trainer,” Prince told The Supreme Racing Guide of the Jamaica Observer.

“It’s a dream come true for me, and I am grateful for everything, and I must thank everyone for their support and I must say that this sport requires a lot of hard work and dedication if success is to be achieved.

“My father was a jockey turned trainer, so I was introduced to the game from a young age. So you could say racing is in my blood, and I have no regrets about entering the racing profession,” he added.

Ridden by Tevin Foster, Stanislaus broke off well at the start of the race and quickly assumed the lead ahead of Boss Izzy (Anthony Allen), Call The Emperor (Richard Henry), and Three Card Guy (Samantha Fletcher). Stanislaus stayed with the field for first part of the race before draw off crossing the dummy rails for an easy win. Call The Emperor was second and Three Card Guy finished third.

“I now have seven horses under my care, and now that I’ve gotten off to a good start, the work will continue because I want to win a lot of races,” Prince said.
