Reggae Boy Lambert embraces new opportunity with Real Salt Lake
AFTER more than six years of playing in the United Soccer League (USL), Reggae Boyz midfielder Kevon Lambert is now set to ply his trade in Major Soccer League (MLS) competition for Real Salt Lake City (RSL).
Lambert has been signed by RSL, from USL club Phoenix Rising FC, through to the 2025 season. This marks the first time the 26-year-old Lambert, who can also operate as a central defender, will be playing in the MLS.
He has scored 15 goals and dished out 11 assists in 161 appearances across all competitions for Phoenix Rising.
Lambert said is he looking forward to giving his best for Real Salt Lake City.
“I arrived in Phoenix as a boy and now I leave there as a man, a man now focused on doing whatever I can to help RSL win trophies this season and provide the club a solid, dependable, versatile, long-term piece,” Lambert said in a widely circulated press release issued by the club.
“I’m proud to be the latest in a long line of Jamaican internationals to call Salt Lake home, and I look forward to representing the shield and playing before this spectacular fan base,” he said.
Meanwhile Kurt Schmid, technical director of RSL, quoted in the same media release, claims Lambert is one of the most talented players in the USL, therefore he is very happy they were able to secure his services at this time.
“Kevon adds size and international experience along our spine, whether on our backline or in the midfield,” said Schmid. “He has developed into, arguably, one of the most consistent players in the USL — and his international experience proves that he is ready for the next challenge,” he said.
Lambert, who is a former Montego Bay United player, has made 25 appearances for the Reggae Boyz. He was recently a part of Jamaica’s team which went to the semi-finals of the Gold Cup tournament in the United States.
