JDF joins search and rescue operations for missing fishermen
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is currently engaged in a search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate Denroy Morgan and Hillroy Reid, two Clarendon fishermen who have been missing since Wednesday, August 16, 2023.
Reports are that Morgan and Reid left Rocky Point, Clarendon, on Monday, August 14, to go crab hunting in Manatee Bay. When they did not return by the stipulated time on Wednesday, August 16, a family member alerted the Lionel Town police and a search ensued.
“Over the past several days, the JDF has deployed aircraft and patrol vessels from the Jamaica Defence Force Air Wing and the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard respectively, in an extensive search for the missing fishermen and their vessel. To date, nothing has been found,” the JDF said in a statement on Thursday.
“The JDF is urging fisherfolk and citizens traversing the seas, cays and points offshore Jamaica to be on the lookout for these missing men and their vessel and provide any information they might have to the JDF Tipline at (876) 837-8888 or Police Emergency Number 119,” it added.
The JDF went on to say that it is committed to using its assets to safeguard and preserve the lives and livelihoods of all Jamaicans.
