Sales rep shot during dispute with cop in Spanish Town, INDECOM launches probe
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – A man was shot during a confrontation with a policeman on Walks Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Wednesday.
The injured man, a sales representative from St Jago Heights in the parish, has since been hospitalised and the firearm seized. The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the incident.
It was reported that around 5:45 pm, the policeman, a constable, was driving his Toyota motor car along Walks Road when he saw a vehicle blocking the roadway.
The cop reportedly shouted to the sales representative and instructed him to remove the vehicle from the roadway.
It is understood that the man, who had a foam cup containing soup in his hand, threw it at the policeman. The cop exited his vehicle and identified himself as a policeman.
Further reports are that the sales representative attempted to pull a firearm from his waistband. The constable, who was armed with his licence pistol, pulled his weapon and opened fire at him.
The sales representative reportedly received gunshot wounds to his upper and lower abdomen and was rushed to hospital, where he is being treated.
His firearm was retrieved by the policeman and found to be a Glock pistol with a magazine and seventeen 9mm rounds. The scene was processed by INDECOM.
