Tryall-CUMI charity golf tourney aims for $3 million
MONTEGO BAY, St James – AFTER robust support for the two previous stagings of the Tryall-CUMI charity golf tournament, organisers have upped their target for this year’s event.
“We were able to exceed our target for year one and year two so this year we’ve put the target to $3 million,” said chairperson for the Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI), Trina DeLisser.
She was speaking during a press launch, on Tuesday, for what she described as CUMI’s “premier fund-raising event”. In 2022 they raised a little more than $2.5 million, money that was used to help fund the activities of CUMI throughout the year.
This year’s event will be held at the Tryall Club golf course in Hanover on September 2. It is expected to feature a number of local players from across the island.
Last year about 64 golfers participated, and organisers are hoping they’ll be able to get more than 70 for this year’s staging. They are expecting the numbers to be boosted by news that golfers will have the opportunity to win a brand new Mercedes Benz, courtesy of Stewart’s Automotive Group.
The $16-million luxury motor car will be presented to the first person to get a hole in one on the 10th hole of the green. Other prizes will be provided for the golfer who gets closest to the pin, has the longest drive, and more.
